Back?

Well, it's been almost a year since I put anything on this blog. Strange enough to say but not much has really happened in that whole time except for the last 6 months. So here's a quick update.

September 09
  • I finally quit working the door at Estelle's in progress of moving to Las Vegas.
  • I had a going away party at Estelle's that was very successful. If you were there I thank you and I swear, I am leaving some time. (Technically I did leave. I just haven't made it to where I want to be yet, physically or mentally.)
  • I packed up all my stuff and moved to the U of Woo to prep for the move to Vegas.
October 09
  • I decided to finally get my teeth fixed. I started the process to get them removed.
  • I spend time in and around Dixon with old friends.
November 09
  • More appointments are made for more dental work. 2nd round of tooth removal.
  • I spend the first birthday in 8 years sober and not playing grabass with random people and friends. It wasn't as fun as everyone always told me it used to be.
December 09
  • After spending 3 months at my Mom's house and having recurring monthly bills, I find that funds are running low. I go back to work at Estelle's. First two weeks are without any teeth in my head.
  • I begin the process of finding couches to crash on while in Chicago. Based on the thought that if I get an apartment I'll end up back in the same routine.
  • Christmas time and I get my new teeth! Best present I've given myself in decades.
  • New Year's Eve off. First time in a decade. Ended up at Double Door and had a great time. Local H and Electric Six played.
January 09
  • I continue the process of crashing on couches so as to not just stay working the door. I do this because I know I'm a creature of habit and ease.
February 09
  • I decide that I will be leaving for Vegas during the 3rd week of March. This way I can swing through Austin and see family as I go. Plus I might catch some of SXSW.
  • Departure date postponed so Estelle's can have more time to find replacements. Now I'm planning on April 1st to be my last day working the door at Estelle's.
So that's basically all that's been going on with me in a nutshell. I'm sure I've left out a lot of things but these are the important ones.

In other news, I'm slowly putting the word out that I'm looking for a bar management or security management job. I think that might be enough to keep me around Chicago. Keep you around Chicago? Yep. I have no plans set in stone. I'm open to possibilities as long as the possibilities are worthwhile.

I'm glad that I didn't find a sublease or an apartment when I came back. Even though it would make things a lot easier, if I had I'd be stuck. I'm already burnt out on the door again. I'm in need of more stimulation in some form.

Lap Steel Update

Well, they've already changed their welcome page message. Feel free to refer to the previous post to compare. Here it is.
Notice to Non-Internet Explorer users:

This website incorporates features available only by using Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.0 or later,

hence, it has been disabled for virtually all browsers except Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Due to the inability of many browsers to render our code as intended, we regret
that we will no longer attempt to service requests from browsers other than Internet Explorer.

We don't know what the problem is, and we don't care, but it is most likely that we make no attempts to conform to "standards"
imposed by some self-ordained "consortium" of web-developers attempting to force us to abide by their criteria.
We are not about to rewrite reliable code, that has been in use for many years, just because "someone" says we have to.

Please don't take it personal...

Our websites work just fine on MSIE, and we are perfectly happy with that.
With MSIE, it's so easy...even a caveman can do it!

Microsoft Internet Explorer can be downloaded for free from the links below...

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 for older versions of Windows
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac

Unfortunately, Microsoft has discontinued development of Internet Explorer for Mac and Unix operating systems.

Just by reading this it seems that they've caught a lot of flack about it. Especially who ever this "self ordained consortium of web developers" are. I mean they must be real jackasses to suggest that your site which makes you money, I'm assuming, should be accessible by every person that uses the web.

If I were to re-write the message in my typical cynically humorous way (which is funny to me) it'd be a little like this.

Hey, you jerks that don't use Internet Explorer 5.0 or later!!

We put this site together to run perfectly on IE 5.0 or later. If you don't use that then go away.

The coding that we use for our site doesn't work with any browser except Internet Explorer. We don't care that you don't like IE or that you have the choice to use any browser you want. We're just tired of sticking to the same rule that our web site should be accessible to everyone. You know what? Use IE or don't bother us. We don't think we should have to update this site and it's coding just so you can surf at your own pleasure.

Quit bitchin about it. We're not telling you to not come here. We're just telling you what browser to use.
With MSIE even a total idiot that bashes things with rocks could use this site. Well, unless that person uses some browser other than IE.

Microsoft Internet Explorer can be downloaded for free from the links below...

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 for older versions of Windows
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac

Oh yea... Microsoft quit making updates and stuff for Internet Explorer for Mac and Unix based operating systems. If you have one of those your gonna have to get a new pc or something to see our site. With all the regular IE updates you'll probably get a virus or something if your IE is a few updates behind.

So there's the first change. I'll have to keep an eye on the site and see what changes next. It's kind of interesting to me just to see what happens. Will they cave in and finally fix the coding so everyone can see the site? Will they leave it the way it is so they start losing business?

I think they'll change it. After all, a lot of musicians use Mac products and IE isn't available for Macs anymore. At least an up to date version of IE that is. And who really wants to run a browser that carries important private information that's over a year or more old?

Wow.

Greetings and Salutations one and all.

So it's been a long time since I actually updated this thing. A year and 6 days to be exact...

I figure I might as well start updating here just so I can get some things written and get the blood stirring again. It's been a long time since I updated the story blog as well and I'm hoping to get that running again too. I figure I have the time I just need to get the creative juices flowing again.

So I think I'll start writing on a more constant basis. Who knows what all it will be about but it'll still be a small look inside the complexities that reside inside my skull.

It could be anything... It could be about the douche bags that I see a lot or it could be about the jack ass that ran into me with a shopping cart at the store. Either way, it should be interesting.

Updates

So... got some updates.

The final decision for my move to Vegas will be coming up within the next couple weeks. That's that.

The show...

Well.. it's totally changed now.. Found out that 2 of the bands can't do it now. That sucks. One already confirmed and the other was trying to get it but found out that with their schedule they can't do it. We'll see....

In other news...

Nothing exciting has been happening...

Working on the story update and trying to piece a few more things together with the story.

Vegas Update

Made it out here to Vegas on Monday morning. Been running non-stop until today. Actually taking a little time to just sit back and relax at my friends house.

It's not too bad out here, the people are pretty cool, found a few bars and clubs that I would hang out frequently and possibly work at if I do decide to move here.

First few days were pretty rough due to some food I ate before I left Chicago. The effects finally wore off last night. So with one last night in Vegas let's see what all happens.

I'll be back in Chicago Thursday afternoon if all goes well. Then it's one last night before going back to the normal schedule until December hits.

So if your out and about in Chicago tomorrow night stop by the Double Door for the Melvins show. I'll be there.

Late night.

It's getting late and it's bout time to head to work. I'm heading out to Vegas early Monday morning for a few days so I can check it out and get a better idea if I want to move out there.

Not to worry, the story will continue even though a lot of it will contain things that some of you might recognize.

I'm trying to work on some things for here and the story and also trying to keep everything in order for other things. I've been doing some web work lately and it's helping a little. Well, on the experience level.

I have a ton of things to do tomorrow. Petsmart, laundry, and getting things ready for heading out of town. I'll be hanging out late night in the neighborhood tomorrow since my flight is so early in the morning.

More news at Eleven.....

1-6-13 Post

A new installment is up now. I wanted to put one up before I go out of town. I'll be hitting up Vegas for a few days so there won't be an update until somewhere around next weekend.

It was a long night at work last night and I think I might get a few extra zzzz's.

Have a good week.
